Maine Lacrosse Officials Association

Maine’s Premier Lacrosse Officials Organization

ABOUT MLOA

The Maine Lacrosse Officials Association (MLOA) plays a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of lacrosse across the state by providing qualified officials for boy’s Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School programs. In addition, MLOA members officiate at the collegiate level, further contributing to the advancement of the sport. Over the past decade, lacrosse has experienced explosive growth in Maine, with an increasing number of schools and communities embracing the sport. Today, MLOA boasts a dedicated network of more than 80 officials, and the rise of youth lacrosse programs statewide has created opportunities for MLOA to assist in training and certifying new officials for the younger age groups.

The association’s mission extends beyond merely providing officials for games. It is deeply committed to fostering an environment where the sport can continue to thrive at all levels. MLOA’s leadership in the community includes a focus on education and skill development, both for officials and for those involved in the sport more broadly—players, coaches, parents, and fans. By offering training programs and supporting lacrosse education initiatives, MLOA aims to elevate the overall understanding of the game and the rules that govern play.

The primary goals of MLOA are:

  • To instruct and educate: Provide comprehensive instruction to players, coaches, parents, and fans to ensure a clear understanding of lacrosse and its rules.
  • To train, educate, and certify officials: Develop and certify individuals to become skilled, knowledgeable officials for boy’s lacrosse at all levels, from youth leagues to the collegiate level.
  • To promote the growth and development of lacrosse: Support and drive the continued growth of lacrosse across Maine, ensuring that players and teams at every level have access to high-quality officiating.
  • To uphold high standards of sportsmanship: Strive to promote good sportsmanship, respect, and integrity among players, coaches, parents, and fans, ensuring that every game is played with fairness and respect.

MLOA is dedicated to ensuring that officials are trained to the highest standards, providing a consistent and professional presence on the field. Through their work, MLOA plays a pivotal role in creating a positive environment for the sport to flourish in Maine, ensuring that the lacrosse community grows stronger, more knowledgeable, and more inclusive every year.
