BOYS & MENS RULES
The rules of the game are designed to do two things:
promote fair play and keep players safe.
USA Lacrosse and the Maine Lacrosse Officials Association: Commitment to Rule Evolution
USA Lacrosse, in partnership with the Maine Lacrosse Officials Association (MLOA), is dedicated to the ongoing review and enhancement of lacrosse rules to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the sport. This commitment extends to both youth and high school levels:
-
Youth Lacrosse: For players 14 and under (14U), USA Lacrosse and MLOA have developed a specialized rule book tailored specifically for young athletes. This stand-alone youth rule book aims to make the game safe, accessible, and enjoyable for children, focusing on skill development and sportsmanship.
-
High School Lacrosse: In collaboration with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), USA Lacrosse and MLOA work on updating and refining the rules for boys’ high school lacrosse. This partnership ensures that the rules are consistent across schools, promote competitive play, and maintain player safety. The NFHS, known for setting standards in high school sports, helps to integrate broader educational goals into the sport’s framework, such as leadership and teamwork.
Through these efforts, USA Lacrosse and MLOA not only aim to keep the game fair and fun but also seek to align lacrosse with educational values, ensuring that the sport continues to grow and appeal to new generations of players.
